Delhi teen shoots himself at home, suicide note mentions social guilt
A 17-year-old boy was found dead at his West Delhi home, and police recovered a handwritten note in which the teen referred to 'social guilt'.

A 17-year-old boy allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with a licensed 12-bore rifle at his home in west Delhi, police said on Wednesday. A handwritten note recovered from the spot said he was taking the step because of "social guilt", they added.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening at the family’s rented accommodation in Chaukhandi in the Tilak Nagar area. Police said no foul play is suspected at this stage, and further investigation is underway.
According to police, they received information about the death and rushed to the house with a CAT ambulance. Residents told them the teenager had already been declared dead by the time the police team arrived. Preliminary enquiry found that the boy had recently passed Class 12 and was living with his parents, a brother and two sisters. He was the youngest among the siblings.
"At the time of the incident, the boy's father and a relative were present in the house. Around 5 pm, the teenager went into the bathroom and shot himself with a 12-bore rifle," a police officer said.
Police said the weapon was originally licenced in the name of the boy’s grandfather, who had worked as a security guard. The licence was later transferred to the boy’s father, who had also previously worked as a security guard at the same establishment. The arms licence is valid till 2030, police said.
Police said the boy’s father has been living in Delhi for around two decades and earns a livelihood by running a chole-kulche cart in Dwarka. A crime team examined the scene and collected forensic evidence. During the inspection, police recovered the handwritten note in which the teen referred to "social guilt", they said.
"No foul play is suspected at this stage," the police officer said. The body has been shifted to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Police said inquest proceedings under the relevant provisions of law have been initiated, statements of family members are being recorded, and the investigation is continuing.
