Mass copying alleged at Jaisalmer college exam, probe ordered
Jai Narain Vyas University has ordered an inquiry after its flying squad found invigilators allegedly dictating answers at a Jaisalmer college examination centre. The case has led to sealed answer sheets, CCTV scrutiny and tighter checks at other centres.
A case of alleged mass copying has come to light during a university examination in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer after invigilators at a private college were reportedly caught dictating answers to students. Jai Narain Vyas University has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
The alleged malpractice was detected on Wednesday when a flying squad from the university carried out a surprise inspection at Shri Karni College in Kajoi village. The inspection took place during the BA second-year Hindi Literature examination, which was held between 7 am and 10 am.
According to university officials, members of the flying squad found invigilators dictating answers to students inside the examination hall. Following the inspection, the team sealed 93 answer sheets and registered a case of mass copying.
Officials said an initial review of the answer sheets showed that many students had written nearly identical answers, raising suspicion of organised cheating. The university has also examined CCTV footage from the examination centre.
"The footage suggests that answers were being dictated to students. A detailed inquiry has been ordered," a university official said.
The flying squad included Prof Aman Singh, Dr Suresh Choudhary, Dr Lalit Jhala and Dr Gaurav Jain.
Reacting to the incident, SBK College Jaisalmer Principal Shyamsundar Meena said unfair practices in examinations harm honest students who spend months preparing for their exams.
"Providing unfair advantage in examinations is wrong. Such practices affect deserving candidates who work hard to succeed," he said.
The flying squad also inspected examination centres in Undu, Fatehgarh and Ramgarh in Jaisalmer district, along with the Shiv area of neighbouring Barmer district, where another cheating case was reported.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Pawan Kumar Sharma said the university would take strict action against anyone found guilty after the inquiry.
"Maintaining fairness and transparency in examinations is our top priority. We have a zero-tolerance policy against malpractice, and action will be taken based on the inquiry report," he said.
Following the incident, the university has stepped up vigilance at other examination centres and is carrying out more surprise inspections to ensure examinations are conducted fairly.
