Haryana girl wins gold in 37th Biology Olympiad, India shines with four medals
A girl from Haryana has won a gold medal at the 37th International Biology Olympiad. India also won three silver medals, delivering an impeccable performance and finishing among the top-performing nations. The country had recently won gold medals at the International Physics Olympiad and the International Chemistry Olympiad as well.

The silver medals were won by Soumil Maity from West Bengal, Nishit Kalani from Rajasthan, and Anmol Kumar from Punjab. All four members of the Indian team returned home with medals, showing India's strong performance in the prestigious global competition.

This year, 307 students from 78 countries participated in the event. The competition included two challenging six-hour examinations, one practical and one theory, covering different areas of biological sciences.
According to the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), a total of 31 gold, 61 silver, and 91 bronze medals were awarded during the Olympiad.
Bhavyaa Gunwal, who hails from Mahendragarh district in Haryana, won India's only gold medal. Soumil Maity from Howrah, West Bengal, Nishit Kalani from Pali, Rajasthan, and Anmol Kumar from Mansa, Punjab, earned silver medals for their excellent performances.
The practical examination tested students in subjects such as Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Animal Physiology, Animal Morphology and Systematics, and Plant Computational Biology.
The theory examination focused on research-based biological concepts.
This was India's 26th participation in the International Biology Olympiad. So far, 104 Indian students have represented the country at the competition.
Out of them, 17 have won gold medals, 69 silver medals, 17 bronze medals, and one student has received an honourable mention, reflecting India's consistent success in international science Olympiads.
