S Janaki was laid to rest with full state honours in Mysuru as her granddaughter Apsara Vydyula paid tribute. Apsara said the singer's death was a loss to the world, but her music would endure.

Veteran singer S Janaki was laid to rest with full state honours in Karnataka on July 12, a day after she died at the age of 88 following a cardiac arrest. Fans and loved ones gathered at Maharaja College grounds in Mysuru to pay their last respects and bid the singer farewell.
At the last rites, Janaki’s granddaughter, Apsara Vydyula, spoke to the press about her grandmother’s legacy and said her death was a loss not just to the family, but to the nation and the world. She also said this was not a goodbye, as Janaki would continue to live on through her music.
Speaking about Janaki’s legacy, Apsara said, “This is a great loss, not just to our family, for the whole nation, for the whole world. My grandmom was a very versatile singer. She had the most expressive type of singing. I think everybody who listens to her music knows that.”
“It’s a very sad day, not just for the family, but for the whole nation. My grandmother was one of a kind; anybody who knew her will not tell you otherwise. She was very special to the world; she was a remarkable talent. I will remember her as my grandmother, kind, so generous, and full of love and laughter,” she added.
Apsara also described Janaki as a unique soul and an inspirational figure, adding that she will be "deeply missed" by the whole world. Honoured to be her granddaughter, Apsara remembered her not just as a celebrity, but as a "kind, gentle, wonderful person" who loved animals.
She also called Janaki God’s gift to mankind and a divine presence. “She will be greatly missed, but forever, she will live on through her music. We only have that now. We're always together. There is no goodbye,” Apsara said. Janaki had been hospitalised before she died from cardiac arrest on Saturday.
