Fact Check: CM Vijay, Sunita Williams at CJP protest? These videos are unrelated
While the videos showing CM Vijay surrounded by a massive crowd are from Tamil Nadu, the one featuring Sunita Williams is from the Kerala Literature Festival in January.

This video is from Nungambakkam, Chennai, and was shot in May. At the time of publishing this story, Vijay hadn’t visited the CJP protest site at Jantar Mantar.
Thousands of supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar marched towards the Parliament on July 20. While some were stopped by the police, others reached the area near the Parliament complex. As per reports, the police have detained several protestors.
Meanwhile, three videos, two of them allegedly showing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and the other showing former NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, visiting the Jantar Mantar protest site, have gone viral on social media.
India Today Fact Check found that all three videos are old and unrelated to the CJP protest. Let us talk about these videos one by one.
VIJAY’S VIDEOS
One video shows the Tamil Nadu CM greeting people with folded hands while sitting in a car, as hundreds of people try to film him. Allegedly, it showed Vijay’s visit to Jantar Mantar. The archive of this post can be viewed here.
This video was originally shared on May 4 on the Instagram account of Harshitha Karthik, a child artist based in Chennai. Harshita’s mother, K Shali, who manages the account, told India Today Fact Check that she filmed this video on May 4, near Loyola College in Chennai's Nungambakkam. In one frame of the viral video, one can clearly see a board with the name of Loyola College.
Another video showing CM Vijay wearing a purple shirt, walking amid a huge crowd was also shared only as his visit to the Jantar Mantar protest site. Its archive can be accessed here.
The video featured the watermark of an Instagram account “@veers_on_”. This account belongs to a journalist named Veera who works for the Tamil news channel Puthiya Thalaimurai TV. Veera had posted the video in question on July 13, calling it Vijay’s Perambut visit. Several news channels, including India Today, covered this visit and their reports feature similar visuals.
SUNITA WILLIAMS
This video allegedly shows former NASA astronaut Sunita Williams visiting the Jantar Mantar protest site. The archive of a similar post can be seen here.
A quick reverse search of the viral video’s frames led us to a February 6 Instagram post, which said it was related to the Kerala Literature Festival. In the video, we can see Sunita wearing an identity card with “KLF” written on it.
As per reports, Sunita Williams inaugurated the Kerala Literature Festival on January 22.
Thus, it’s clear that none of these videos is related to the Delhi CJP protest.
