Chennai family's rainy-day rescue gives street dog and puppies a second chance

A Chennai-based woman has delighted social media users after sharing how her parents rescued a street dog and her newborn puppies after the animal gave birth in the middle of heavy rain.
In a video posted on Instagram, Reethu said the mother dog had delivered her puppies in an unsafe, dusty spot and was struggling to keep them sheltered from the downpour.
The video showed Reethu's mother carrying the newborn puppies in a tub while holding an umbrella as it rained, with the mother dog following closely behind.
Once home, Reethu's parents cleaned a corner of their under-construction house and prepared a small bed for the dog and her puppies. They gently wiped the animals dry, provided food and water, and settled them into a warm, cosy space.
"A street dog gave birth in the middle of the rain. She and her newborn puppies were struggling in a dusty, unsafe place. My parents brought them home, cleaned a safe space in our under-construction upstairs area, gave them food, water, and protected them from the rain," Reethu said in the caption of her post.
"Watching them choose compassion without expecting anything in return reminded me that humanity still exists. I'm incredibly proud of my parents," she added.
