Delhi cop shoots teacher wife dead with his service pistol after roadside argument

A Delhi Police constable posted with the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) in East Delhi allegedly shot his wife dead after a heated argument during a scooter ride in Delhi's Kalyanpuri area before fleeing the scene, police said. CCTV footage has captured the couple stopping on the roadside moments before the shooting, while the victim's family has now accused the constable of harassing her for dowry.

The victim, identified as Priyanka, 26, was a teacher at a private school in Ashok Vihar.

According to Delhi Police, Constable Manish Kumar was travelling on a scooter with his wife when the two got into an argument in the Kalyanpuri area.

CCTV footage shows the scooter coming to a halt before the couple begins arguing. During the altercation, the constable allegedly pulled out his pistol and shot Priyanka.

Police said he abandoned her on the road and fled.

Four to five passers-by who witnessed the incident rushed Priyanka to a hospital in an auto-rickshaw, but she succumbed to her injuries. The accused constable remains absconding.

EYEWITNESS RECALLS DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO SAVE HER

A Domino's delivery worker who was passing through the area described the moments after the shooting.

"We got scared. We quickly caught an auto. We thought we'll first take her to the hospital and then see what happens," he said.

Recalling what he saw, the eyewitness said, "It was dark there. There was a motorcycle on the road. When I stopped, I asked what happened. I saw the girl lying next to the motorcycle."

He said Priyanka was bleeding heavily and those present focused on getting her medical help.

"I tried moving the dupatta and looked at the wound, but I didn't do much search. I thought it was better to go to the hospital," he said.

"The girl's condition was very bad," he added.

FAMILY ALLEGES DOWRY HARASSMENT

The couple got married in 2023.

Priyanka's family alleged that she had been subjected to harassment over dowry since her marriage, as per PTI. According to the family, they had earlier approached the women's cell with a complaint against Manish. However, the matter was resolved after counselling and intervention by relatives.

The family has also alleged that the constable repeatedly demanded money from them.

Police said these allegations are being verified as part of the investigation and legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected.

MURDER CASE REGISTERED

The accused is posted with the AATS unit in East Delhi. Police have registered a murder case and launched a search for the absconding constable.
