A young man arrested in the Patna bandh violence asked his mother if she had eaten and tried to calm her from a prisoner vehicle. The exchange surfaced as police widened their crackdown, with the video drawing wide attention online.
A video of a young man arrested in connection with the violence during the July 25 bandh in Bihar’s Patna has gone viral, showing him asking his tearful mother, “Have you eaten since morning?” before trying to reassure her from inside a prisoner vehicle.
The incident took place late at night when those arrested in connection with the violence were produced before a magistrate at his residence in Chhajubagh, Patna, as authorities began the process of sending several accused to jail.
The man, who was sitting inside the prisoner vehicle, appeared to notice tears in his mother’s eyes and tried to comfort her, telling her, “Nothing will happen.”
The video has since spread rapidly on social media.
The emotional moment came amid a major police crackdown following the violence during the July 25 bandh in Patna. Protesters have been accused of pelting stones at police, vandalising property and damaging government and private assets.
189 ARRESTED IN PATNA VIOLENCE CASE
Patna Police has arrested 137 people from the Gandhi Maidan police station area and 52 from the Kotwali police station area in connection with the violence.
Around 30 people have also been released on PR bonds.
Several of those arrested were produced before a magistrate late at night at the residence in Chhajubagh as the police moved ahead with the process of sending them to jail.
It was during this process that the emotional exchange between the arrested man and his mother was captured on video.
POLICE VEHICLES, TRAFFIC POSTS DAMAGED
The violence during the July 25 bandh caused damage to public property in several parts of Patna.
In the Gandhi Maidan police station area, police vehicles parked inside a roadside garage near Ramgulam Chowk and Exhibition Road were allegedly targeted and vandalised.
A permanent traffic post near Gate Number 12 of Gandhi Maidan was also damaged.
In another incident, a traffic checkpoint adjacent to the Gandhi Maidan police station campus was allegedly attacked with a bomb and damaged.
CCTV FOOTAGE BEING SCANNED
Several cases have been registered against dozens of unidentified people in connection with the violence.
Police are now examining CCTV footage to identify those allegedly involved in the vandalism and attacks.
The crackdown comes as authorities investigate the incidents of stone-pelting, damage to public property and attacks on police and traffic infrastructure during the bandh.
