70-year-old woman gang-raped in Rajasthan, 2 neighbours arrested
A 70-year-old woman in Rajasthan's Alwar district has alleged that two neighbours entered her house and gang-raped her. Police arrested both men within 30 minutes and said the case would be pursued urgently.
A 70-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by two of her neighbours after they barged into her house in Rajasthan's Alwar district, police said. The accused were arrested within 30 minutes of the complaint being lodged, with investigators completing the survivor's medical examination, collecting forensic evidence and recording her judicial statement as part of the probe.
The incident took place on the night of July 21. According to the survivor's complaint, she was asleep in her room at around 10.30 pm when two men allegedly entered the house and committed the crime.
The woman's son, who was in the house, woke up after hearing her cries for help. The two accused allegedly fled the spot before they could be caught.
Police identified the accused as Moradhwaj, son of Birdhi Jatav, and Bacchu, son of Nanga Jogi. The survivor alleged that the main accused raped her while the second accused assisted him during the assault.
Following the incident, Joginder Singh Rajawat said the police treated the complaint with urgency and immediately launched an operation under the supervision of Kherli Station House Officer Vijay Chandel. Both accused were arrested within 30 minutes of the complaint being registered.
Investigators also summoned a mobile forensic team to the crime scene, collected scientific evidence, conducted the survivor's medical examination and recorded her statement before a magistrate as part of the legal process.
Police said both accused are neighbours of the survivor. They have been produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
Calling it an ‘extremely serious’ case, Rajawat said the investigation would be completed at the earliest and police would seek to ensure that the matter is taken up through a fast-track process so that the survivor receives justice without undue delay.
