A social media reel featuring an undertrial prisoner lodged in Ratlam Circle Jail has surfaced online, raising questions over security inside the prison. The clip has led authorities to suspend a jail guard and seek an explanation from the deputy jail superintendent.

Officials said the reel was allegedly filmed in the visitors' meeting room, where carrying mobile phones is prohibited. The undertrial prisoner, Babar Khan Pathan, who is facing a charge of attempt to murder, is seen in the video making a pistol-like gesture with his hand.

The reel carries a background dialogue that apparently glorifies defiance and also shows the caption: "Babar Lala... God gave me a gangster's mind but had me born into a respectable family." A Hindi dialogue heard in the clip says: "Do you think you own the entire ocean? Who do you think you are? Nothing can stop someone who truly has the guts. Many like you come and go; crows like you cannot halt our flight. We are eagles-born to soar high". Pathan is also seen showing his leg in the video.

On social media, the clip has been cited to question the police's claim that Pathan had suffered a leg fracture at the time of his arrest. He was seen limping while being escorted by police after his arrest.

Director General of Prisons Varun Kapoor told PTI that jail guard Lal Singh was suspended after a preliminary inquiry. Kapoor said a visitor who had come to meet the undertrial allegedly managed to carry a mobile phone into the meeting room due to the guard's negligence, and the video was recorded from the other side of the partition window.

He said a show-cause notice had also been issued to deputy jail superintendent Brajesh Makwane, who was in charge of the visitors' meeting arrangements. Further action will be taken after Makwane submits his reply, Kapoor said, adding that the deputy jail superintendent is responsible for the overall supervision and security of the meeting room.

Officials said Pathan was arrested on July 14 for allegedly attempting to kill a man with a knife on July 10. He was later remanded to judicial custody and lodged in Ratlam Circle Jail by a local court. The reel has since put the focus on jail security and the circumstances in which the video was recorded.
