Along with the threat came an honest admission. "Because of you, we are suffering," he is heard in the clip.
As the incident drew backlash, with Congress and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) amplifying the video on X, Mumbai Police removed the cop from his present posting.
"Mumbai Police has ordered an enquiry in the matter and action will be taken after verifying the facts. The concerned driver has been removed from the place of his present posting," Mumbai DCP (operations) Akbar Pathan said.
Posting the video, the Mumbai Congress said it was not just an attempt to intimidate students, but a direct attack on "democratic rights". "Raising one's voice is not a crime. Students' questions should be answered with accountability, not threats," it tweeted.
The AAP was more scathing, warning the BJP that its days were numbered. In a post attacking Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, AAP said, "In Delhi, your government sent its goons to crush the students' demands, and now such a despicable act in Maharashtra?"
"BJP, listen carefully - do not try to intimidate or threaten the students. The country has awakened. Your days are numbered," the AAP tweeted.
The Cockroach Janta Party wondered if the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) was now being used to "plant fake drugs" into pockets of students. "This will not be tolerated," it posted.
