Women on TikTok and Instagram have blamed Zara's viral wide-leg trousers for a string of falls and injuries. The posts have fuelled jokes online and renewed questions about the practical risks of ultra-wide silhouettes.

There's a fashion faux pas unfolding online, and global fast-fashion retailer Zara is at the centre of it. Multiple women have claimed they recently took a tumble, and they all say they had one thing in common — Zara's viral wide-leg trousers. Across TikTok and Instagram, users have shared videos of themselves falling, along with pictures of bruises and scrapes, claiming the otherwise comfortable-looking trousers were to blame.

While many said they walked away with scraped knees and bruised hands, others claimed the falls resulted in more serious injuries, including sprained ankles, broken elbows and even hospital visits. The trousers, sold in multiple colours for around $45 (approximately Rs 4,300), have become the centre of an online debate. According to women posting the videos, the issue isn't the length of the trousers but their extra-wide silhouette, which can wrap around or get caught under the foot while walking, causing them to trip.

Zara has not publicly responded to the claims. Both CNN and Metro reported that they reached out to the retailer for comment but did not receive a response.

Social media is now flooded with videos and jokes about the trousers. "I am risking it with those Zara trousers today. Wish me luck!" read one comment. Another woman shared a video of herself tripping on a staircase, only managing to avoid a serious fall by grabbing the handrail at the last moment.

TikToker Lina also joined the conversation, saying, "There should be a Netflix documentary about these pants. Fave pants ever but I almost died like eight times while wearing them." Her video has since garnered more than two million views, with users in the comments sharing photos of scraped knees, bruised wrists and even arms in casts after similar falls.

The discussion has also prompted experts to weigh in. Speaking to Metro, award-winning fashion design director Emile Vidal Carr said trousers with extremely wide legs can pose practical risks regardless of the brand. "They can catch on bicycle chains, escalators, machinery, or other moving equipment," he said. "And the extra fabric may cause you to trip, especially on stairs or uneven ground."

Personal stylist Clare Chambers echoed the concern in her conversation with Metro, explaining, "The wider the leg, the more likely it is to get caught and wrapped around the opposite leg/foot causing the wearer to trip and fall."
