Actor Suneil Anand, son of legendary Bollywood actor Dev Anand, died after suffering a heart attack in London. He was 70.
The news was confirmed by Gina Narang, Dev Anand's granddaughter and Suneil Anand's niece. In a statement, she requested privacy for the family as they grieve the loss.
"With heavy hearts, our family mourns the passing of Suneil Anand. We are comforted by the outpouring of love, prayers and support, for which we are truly grateful. We kindly request privacy as we navigate this difficult time together," the statement read.
Born to Dev Anand and actor Kalpana Karthik in Zurich, Switzerland, Suneil Anand made his Bollywood debut with his father with the 1984 film Anand Aur Anand after completing his studies in the US. The film, which also featured Dev Anand, failed at the box office.
Suneil went on to star in two more films – Car Thief and Main Tere Liye, the latter opposite Meenakshi Seshadri. However, neither film managed to revive his acting career.
After stepping away from acting, Suneil largely stayed out of the limelight and went on to manage his father's production banner, Navketan Films, in Mumbai.
Dev Anand, one of Hindi cinema's most celebrated stars, died in 2011 at the age of 88. Suneil is survived by his family, who have requested privacy during this difficult time.
