Spider-Man Exclusive: Tom Holland recalls feeling left out by Zendaya and Jacob
Tom Holland told India Today that playing an isolated Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day felt different, but not emotionally taxing. The actor joked he felt left out while Zendaya and Jacob Batalon had fun filming together.
Actor Tom Holland said he felt "left out" by co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon while filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as his character Peter Parker is left without his usual support system in the fourth film. Speaking exclusively to India Today, Holland said the role was not emotionally taxing, but the experience was different because he had to stay sad in scenes while the others were enjoying themselves.
Given Peter Parker’s emotional isolation, many fans have wondered whether this was Holland’s toughest Spider-Man performance yet. However, the actor said, “I don’t know if I would describe it as emotionally taxing,” adding, “It was really fun making this movie, and it was really different.”
The actor explained that what excited him most was seeing Peter without the support system audiences have grown used to over the last three films.
“In all of our previous movies, Spider-Man and Peter Parker have had this amazing support network of lovely friends and mentors and things like that. So, to strip all of that away just made the process feel really different and unique, I guess,” he shared.
Rather than weighing him down emotionally, Holland said the change pushed him creatively. “I actually just really enjoyed the kind of change of direction.”
Ironically, the hardest part had nothing to do with filming heartbreaking scenes.
“I definitely found it difficult when we were in scenes together, and these guys were having so much fun, and I was supposed to be really miserable and sad because I just felt like I was missing out. I like to have fun. I like to laugh and smile, and I wasn’t allowed to,” he quipped.
Zendaya and Jacob couldn’t resist laughing at Holland’s predicament. “But we’re still all in the same place though,” they joked.
Holland continued, “Yeah. And you guys are over there with your fu*king new friend” The cast then burst into laughter as Zendaya pointed out that the tables had merely turned.
“In previous movies, that has been the case many times before where you have to go off and do Spider-Man stuff while we’re still doing the high school stuff. So, we’re kind of hanging out having a good time and bless him, he’s on a wire somewhere swinging around,” she joked.
Holland even recalled an incident while filming No Way Home when he was busy shooting an action sequence while Zendaya and Jacob Batalon explored the studio in a golf buggy and amused themselves by photographing a giant crack in the floor.
The film has already emerged as one of the year’s biggest theatrical events in India even before release. The Tom Holland-starrer has crossed Rs 25 crore in advance bookings and is set to release in India on July 30, 2026, a day ahead of several international markets. Trade expects an opening in the Rs 50-60 crore range if the momentum continues.
