Tamil actor Arya named in Rs 1.8 crore cheating case by equipment rental firm
A Hyderabad camera rental company has accused actor-producer Arya, producer Vinod and others of failing to clear over Rs 1.8 crore in dues from Ananthan Kaadu. Police have registered a case for cheating and criminal intimidation and are examining the submitted documents.

Tamil actor Arya has been named in a cheating complaint filed by a camera equipment rental company at Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills Police Station. The company has alleged that actor-producer Arya, producer Vinod and others linked to the production of the Malayalam film Ananthan Kaadu (also dubbed in Tamil) did not clear more than Rs 1.80 crore in dues for camera and lighting equipment used during the film's shoot.
After receiving the complaint, the Jubilee Hills Police registered a case under sections related to cheating and criminal intimidation. Police are now examining the documents submitted by the rental company and are likely to question those named in the complaint as the investigation proceeds.
Actor-producer Arya and the makers of Ananthan Kaadu are yet to issue a statement on the allegations.
According to a report in Gulte, the complaint states that the makers of Ananthan Kaadu hired premium digital cameras, lighting units and other filming equipment from a Hyderabad-based rental firm. The company alleged that the production team had assured them that payments would be made without delay.
The complainant said the firm not only supplied the equipment but also arranged its transport from Hyderabad to Kerala and provided technical support throughout the shooting schedule. After filming was completed, however, a substantial part of the payment allegedly remained unpaid. The company said the total bill was Rs 2.12 crore, of which only a portion was paid, leaving more than Rs 1.80 crore outstanding.
The rental company further alleged that the producers had acknowledged the pending amount in writing and assured it that the dues would be settled before the film's theatrical release. It claimed that despite repeated reminders through letters, phone calls and WhatsApp messages, the payment was not made.
The complaint also alleged that when the company's manager approached the production team seeking the pending amount, Arya, producer Vinod and a personal assistant threatened him. Following the alleged incident and the continued non-payment, the company approached the Jubilee Hills Police and filed a formal complaint.
Even as the complaint is being investigated, Arya has continued with his film work. He recently unveiled the first-look poster of See U, directed by Santhosh Srivatsan and co-produced under his home banner. The film stars Kishen Das and Sanjana in the lead.
