Gurgaon's 'Venice moment' leaves vehicles, residents battling waterlogged roads
Heavy monsoon showers flooded several parts of Gurgaon, with residents sharing videos of submerged streets and struggling commuters. The visuals sparked jokes about the city's "Venice moment" even as they renewed focus on the city's recurring drainage problems.

Gurgaon residents found themselves navigating through waterlogged streets after heavy monsoon showers left several parts of the city submerged, with viral videos showing vehicles struggling through flooded roads and locals joking that the city had temporarily turned into “Venice.”
The rainfall left multiple areas waterlogged, with roads disappearing under layers of standing water and vehicles partially submerged. Several residents shared visuals from their neighbourhoods, showing the scale of flooding after just a few hours of rain.
A video posted by Instagram user Meghana Abhyankar showed the view outside her house, where the entire street was covered in water. She pointed out that even her parked scooty had been submerged and said, “This is what two hours of rainfall can do in Gurgaon. We can't even see the road anymore.”

Waterlogging has remained a recurring issue in Gurgaon during the monsoon season, with residents frequently raising concerns over drainage infrastructure, rapid urbanisation and inadequate stormwater management.
Several low-lying areas, underpasses and arterial roads in Gurgaon have historically become vulnerable during heavy showers, leading to traffic disruptions and long delays for commuters. Residents have repeatedly demanded better drainage planning and quicker response from civic authorities during monsoon months.
The flood visuals, on the other hand, triggered a wave of humorous reactions online, with users turning the situation into a meme-filled discussion.
“It's giving peak Venice vibes,” one user joked, while another wrote, “Typical Gurugram posh area, buy a boat to cop monsoons.”
Others made playful references to the extent of flooding, with one commenter saying, “As a Resident of Sohna, I can confirm that my city is full flooded and now I live underwater with Patrick Star.”
Another user joked that navigation apps in Gurugram might soon need an update, writing, “At this point, GPS directions in Gurugram should say: Turn left after the lake formerly known as a road.”
While the comments remained humorous, the recurring waterlogging has once again brought attention to the challenges faced by residents during the monsoon, as a city known for its modern infrastructure continues to grapple with seasonal flooding.
