An Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode graduate fulfilled a promise he made as a teenager by surprising his father with the SUV he had dreamed of owning for years.

The heartwarming moment was shared on Instagram by Dip Nilim, an IIM Kozhikode graduate who regularly posts MBA preparation tips and career advice on his account.

The video opened with an emotional scene of Nilim's father wiping away tears before revealing the reason behind his reaction.

Through the video, Nilim explained that when he was in Class 10, he had overheard his father telling his mother that although he wanted to buy an SUV, paying for his son's coaching classes was more important.

That conversation stayed with him.

"I was in 10th class when my dad really wanted an SUV, but I overheard him talking to my mom that his coaching is very expensive," he recalled.

He said that on that very day, he made himself a promise, that he would gift his father an SUV before he retired. According to Nilim, he managed to turn that promise into reality within six months of landing his first job.

He secretly completed all the paperwork for the vehicle before inviting his father out under the pretext of taking a test drive. Once they reached the dealership, he revealed the surprise by telling his father, "Let's take our car home."

The video captured his father's emotional reaction as he realised the SUV had been bought for him.

In the caption, Nilim reflected on people often asking whether pursuing an MBA was worth it.

For him, he wrote, the degree had never been just about placements, salaries or job offers. Instead, it gave him the opportunity to repay the sacrifices his parents had quietly made throughout his childhood.

Recalling hearing the words "baad mein" ("later") countless times while growing up, he wrote that he was finally able to tell his parents, "Ab aapka number hai" ("Now it's your turn").

He added that the moment meant more to him than any promotion, offer letter or paycheck.

The touching video prompted many heartfelt reactions online.

Several users described it as a proud moment for both father and son, saying the father's emotional response reflected years of sacrifice and unconditional love.

Others called the surprise incredibly sweet and said it captured a dream many children hope to fulfil someday—being able to give something meaningful back to their parents.

Many commenters also remarked that moments like these served as a reminder that, for countless families, the greatest milestones were not professional achievements but the chance to repay the people who made those achievements possible.
