A woman from Amritsar challenged the popular social media narrative that chasing your passion required leaving behind a stable career, sharing how she managed to travel while continuing with her full-time job.

Lifestyle and travel content creator Annie Sharma shared a video on Instagram explaining that she did not quit her job to travel, despite the common online trend of people sharing stories about leaving high-paying careers to pursue their dreams.

Opening her video, Annie addressed the often-seen social media narrative directly, saying, “I left my 50 lakh job to travel full-time. That's what everyone is saying on social media, but not me.”

She added that while she admired people who take the risk of leaving their jobs to follow their passions, her own approach was different—finding a balance between work and travel.

Annie explained that planning ahead had been the biggest factor in making frequent trips possible. Instead of taking sudden vacations, she said she usually planned her journeys in advance so she could estimate expenses, save money accordingly, and manage her leave days better.

She revealed that her trips were generally around 10 days long rather than shorter four- or five-day vacations because it allowed her to make better use of her time. By combining two weekends with weekdays, she could explore destinations during her days off while continuing to work remotely during weekdays.

“The most important point,” she said, was having a remote job that supported her passion for travelling. She also mentioned that she earned additional income through social media collaborations, sponsored activities and sponsored trips, which helped support her travel plans.

Towards the end of the video, Annie shared a message for people who feel pressured by online success stories that encourage quitting jobs to pursue passions.

“You don't have to leave your job to follow your passion because everyone on social media is saying you to do that,” she said, adding that sometimes better planning and consistency can help people build a lifestyle they want without making drastic changes.
