Is the EPFO portal working today? Here's what PF subscribers should know

EPFO has said member and employer services are expected to resume from July 3 after another maintenance extension. The prolonged upgrade has delayed PF claims, passbook access and compliance tasks for nearly a week.

Millions of Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) subscribers may finally regain access to online services today after nearly a week of disruption, provided the retirement fund body completes its ongoing system upgrade as scheduled.

According to the latest update, EPFO has said member and employer services are expected to resume from 12 am on July 3, 2026, after it once again extended the maintenance window by another day.

In a post on X on Thursday, EPFO said, "EPFO System Upgrade in Progress. Just a little wait for a better digital EPFO experience. Member and Employer services will resume on 3 July 2026, 00:00 Hrs. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience."

The latest extension means subscribers have had to wait longer than initially expected to access essential online services such as provident fund withdrawals, passbook downloads and claim status tracking.

THIRD DEADLINE EXTENSION

The current outage began on June 26, when EPFO started a planned migration to upgrade its claims processing system and consolidate its database.

Initially, the maintenance was scheduled to conclude on June 28, with services resuming on June 29. The deadline was then pushed to July 1, followed by another extension to July 2. EPFO has now postponed the restoration once again, saying services will be available from July 3.

The prolonged downtime is among the longest planned maintenance exercises undertaken by EPFO in recent years.

WHAT WAS UNAVAILABLE?

During the maintenance period, subscribers could not log in to the EPFO Member Interface to access several online services.

These included filing provident fund withdrawal claims, downloading PF passbooks, tracking claim status, submitting online transfer requests and accessing other member services.

The disruption also affected employers, who were unable to log in to the Employer Interface for filing returns and carrying out other compliance-related activities.

WHAT DOES THE LATEST EPFO NOTICE SAY?

A notice displayed on the EPFO portal says the system upgrade is still in progress.

"The process of system upgrade is currently still continuing. EPFO will be opening up member and employer services by 3rd July 2026. The inconvenience caused is regretted," the organisation said.

It added that both the Member Interface and Employer Interface will remain inaccessible until the migration process is fully completed.

WHAT SHOULD SUBSCRIBERS DO NOW?

If the upgrade is completed as scheduled, EPFO members should be able to access online services from July 3 onwards.

However, since the restoration timeline has already been revised three times, subscribers planning to submit PF withdrawal claims, transfer requests or download passbooks may want to first check whether the portal is functioning normally before beginning any transaction.

EPFO has advised members and employers to follow updates on its official website and X handle for the latest information on service restoration.

The migration is aimed at upgrading the software that powers EPFO's claims processing system and consolidating its databases. The organisation has said the exercise is intended to deliver a better digital experience for members and employers once services are fully restored.
