Caught on camera: Jharkhand football player collapses after tackle, dies

A 37-year-old football player died after collapsing during a match in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district, turning a local football tournament into a tragedy. The death left his family and other residents grieving, with the family later staging a protest and seeking compensation.

The incident occurred during a three-day day-and-night football tournament in the area. A video of the incident has surfaced, capturing the moment of the collision.

The video shows the victim, identified as Kajra Murmu, running with the ball when an opponent made a sliding tackle, causing him to fall to the ground. While the tackle initially appeared harmless, Murmu soon lost consciousness.

The other players immediately rushed towards him, bringing the match to a halt. As Murmu’s condition appeared critical, he was taken to DVC Hospital, where doctors treated him. However, he did not respond to the treatment and was declared dead later that night.

Arvind Kumar, a doctor at DVC Hospital, said Murmu had no external injuries. He added that a post-mortem examination would be necessary to determine whether he had suffered an internal injury that led to his death.

The actual reason behind his death is yet to be ascertained.

After learning about the incident, Murmu’s grieving family members rushed to the hospital. They staged a protest over his death and demanded compensation.

Rajesh Vishwakarma, a local AJSU leader, also mourned Murmu’s death. Describing him as one of the most talented football players in the region, Vishwakarma called the incident tragic.
