Jharkhand man kidnapped, killed for refusing to make inflated fuel bills; 4 arrested
A construction firm clerk was abducted and killed in Jharkhand's Giridih after resisting preparing inflated fuel bills. The case has exposed a billing racket within the company as police arrested four accused for committing the crime.
A private construction firm employee was kidnapped and killed in Jharkhand's Giridih district after he refused to prepare inflated fuel bills, police said on Wednesday. Four people have been arrested in the case, while a search is on for two others, including a project manager.
The victim, Manjesh Singh from Bihar's Lakhisarai district, had joined the firm as a clerk just 15 days before he went missing. A police investigation into the missing person case led officers to the main accused, Pintu Yadav, a tractor driver.
Following Yadav's interrogation, police recovered Singh's body from a forest in Bihar's Jamui district, around four kilometres from Giridih.
Khorimahua SDPO Amrendra Kumar told PTI, "We arrested four people, including two employees of the company. Police recovered the victim's body on Tuesday based on inputs provided by the main accused Pintu Yadav, a tractor driver."
During questioning, the accused told investigators they had been receiving extra payment by inflating diesel bills for tractors.
Police said Singh had objected to the bill manipulation, which worsened his relationship with his colleagues and project manager Upendra Choudhary. The colleagues and the project manager then allegedly conspired with Yadav to kill him.
Police said six people abducted Singh on Sunday from the Khatponk area while he was riding his motorcycle. They allegedly took him to a nearby jungle, beat him to death and then crushed his head with a stone.
Tisri police station officer-in-charge Shambhu Nand Ishwar said police had recovered the murder weapons from the site.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, police said.
