Sardar 2 trailer: Karthi's past returns as SJ Suryah's Black Dagger rises

Karthi is back as Sardar. The actor returns to the world of his 2022 action thriller Sardar with Sardar 2, and the newly released trailer promises a story that connects a troubled chapter from his past to a new threat. Directed by PS Mithran, the nearly three-minute trailer introduces SJ Suryah as Black Dagger, who appears to be the primary antagonist in the sequel.

The trailer opens by taking viewers back to an incident from Chandrabose’s past. Also known as Sardar, Chandrabose was involved in a mission during his trainee days. While he believed the operation had been successfully completed, its consequences continued to haunt him.

Years later, the past comes back to him in an unexpected way. Sardar is forced to confront the fallout of that old mission while dealing with a new and dangerous enemy, Black Dagger.

Karthi once again plays dual roles in the film. While Chandrabose continues to be at the centre of the story, his son is now part of the same field and appears to be following in his father's footsteps after the events of the first film.

The trailer gives a glimpse of SJ Suryah as Black Dagger, who appears to be the biggest threat Sardar faces this time around. His character is shown as a formidable opponent, setting the stage for a face-off between Karthi and SJ Suryah.

The sequel also promises plenty of action, with the trailer featuring several large-scale sequences and elaborate set pieces.

Malavika Mohanan is seen in the portions set in Chandrabose’s past, while Rajisha Vijayan returns as her character from the first film. Ashika Ranganath and Yogi Babu are also part of the cast.

What happened in Sardar?

The first Sardar revolved around Vijay Prakash, a police officer determined to establish his own identity while living under the shadow of his father, Chandrabose.

Vijay initially believed that his father was a criminal and had to deal with the consequences of his actions. He eventually discovered that Chandrabose had taken the blame for a larger mission to protect his people. The father and son, who had been separated for years, eventually reunited and joined forces to take on a common threat.

Sardar 2 appears to take that story forward while expanding the world of Chandrabose and introducing a new chapter in his life.

The film is directed by PS Mithran and stars Karthi in the lead, with SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Rajisha Vijayan, Ashika Ranganath and Yogi Babu in important roles.

Sardar 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on September 10.
