This mid-size SUV taking on Creta, Seltos, Sierra gets 5-star crash safety score

The Nissan Tekton's safety rating is based on the Renault Duster, as both SUVs share an identical body structure and safety equipment.

Nissan Motor India has launched the Tekton in India at a starting price of Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom), and the SUV has entered the market with a strong safety credential. The mid-size SUV has secured a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, scoring 30.49 out of 32 for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 for Child Occupant Protection (COP).

The Bharat NCAP assessment notes that the Nissan Tekton is a corporate twin of the Renault Duster, with both SUVs sharing the same body structure and safety equipment. Consequently, the Tekton's rating is based on the crash assessment of the Renault Duster.

In adult occupant protection, the Tekton scored 14.49 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and achieved a perfect 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. The SUV also successfully cleared the side pole impact test.

For child occupant protection, the SUV earned the maximum 24 out of 24 in the dynamic assessment and 12 out of 12 in the child restraint system (CRS) installation evaluation. It also received 9 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment category, resulting in an overall score of 45 out of 49.

The Tekton comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features as standard, including Electronic Stability Control (ESC), front airbags, curtain airbags, seat belt reminders, pedestrian protection systems and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

Nissan launched the Tekton today at prices ranging from Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 18.59 lakh (ex-showroom), marking its return to India's highly competitive mid-size SUV segment. It rivals the Renault Duster, Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.

Powering the entry-level variants is a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 100bhp and 166Nm, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and offering a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.4kmpl. Higher variants get a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine developing 163bhp and 280Nm, available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed wet dual-clutch automatic (DCT), with a claimed fuel efficiency of 18.5kmpl.

Bookings for the Tekton opened on July 9, while customer deliveries are scheduled to begin from July 20.
