Cops bust train-based cocaine network, seize Rs 20 crore drugs, 2 women arrested
During a July 31 patrol at Hazrat Nizamuddin station, Delhi Police searched two suspicious women's luggage and allegedly recovered eleven packets of cocaine from one of them.
Delhi Police has busted an interstate train-based cocaine smuggling network and arrested two Nigerian women with narcotics worth around Rs 20 crore at the city’s prominent Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, officials said on Friday.
The Railway Unit of Delhi Police, along with the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station police, carried out the operation during a patrol on Platform No. 1 on July 31.
Police said the two women came under suspicion during routine checking, following which their luggage was searched. Eleven packets containing cocaine were allegedly recovered from one of them.
A Forensic Science Laboratory team and a crime team later examined the seized substance and confirmed it was cocaine. The total quantity recovered was 2.288 kg, which falls under the commercial quantity category under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police estimated the international market value of the seizure at nearly Rs 20 crore.
An FIR has been registered at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station under Sections 21(3) and 29 of the NDPS Act.
The arrested women were identified as Chikanso James and Happiness Okoye, both Nigerian nationals. Their passports have been seized as part of the investigation.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly told investigators that the cocaine had been sourced from the Vikaspuri area of Delhi.
Police said efforts are underway to trace the main supplier and other members of the syndicate.
Investigators are also examining possible links between the Delhi-Mumbai route and a wider international drug trafficking network.
