Delhi govt to provide 24x7 support for Kanwar Yatra camps: Rekha Gupta

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi government will provide round-the-clock sanitation, medical care, electricity, water and other facilities at all camps set up for Kanwar Yatra pilgrims. Chairing a review meeting on the preparations, she directed departments to ensure that the religious event is conducted in a smooth, safe and well-organised manner.

The Kanwar Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 30. The Delhi government will also put up multiple welcome gates for devotees and make arrangements to greet them with flower showers, while traffic, security and other civic facilities are put in place along the routes.

Gupta said, "Kanwar Yatra is a living symbol of social harmony and cultural heritage. During Shravan, when lakhs of devotees of Lord Shiva pass through Delhi's streets chanting 'Har Har Mahadev' and 'Bol Bam', the entire atmosphere is filled with faith and devotion."

She said the government has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure that every Kanwariya entering the capital is welcomed with respect, provided security and offered better facilities.

The review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat was attended by Delhi Tourism Minister and Kanwar Committee chairman Kapil Mishra, committee member MLAs Ajay Mahawar, Anil Sharma, Karnail Singh, Sanjay Goyal and Umang Bajaj, along with senior officials from various departments.

According to a Delhi CMO statement, a single-window system has been put in place to simplify permissions and other facilities required by Kanwar committees so that they do not have to approach multiple departments and can receive assistance in time. Gupta directed officials to remain in close coordination with the committees and extend support based on their actual requirements.

The health department will ensure adequate medical facilities at all camps, with doctors and healthcare personnel deployed in separate shifts. Traffic management and security arrangements along the Kanwar routes were also reviewed in detail, and the Chief Minister directed officials to complete preparations related to barricading, route diversions, PCR deployment and accident prevention well in advance.

The yatra will see devotees walk to Haridwar to collect water from the Ganga and offer it at Lord Shiva temples, with the Delhi government saying it is preparing to support them throughout their passage through the capital.
