Gurugram engineer arrested for obscene WhatsApp messages, death threats to HR
Gurugram police arrested an IT engineer accused of sending obscene WhatsApp messages and death threats to a woman HR manager. The complaint led to a case at Sadar police station, and the investigation is continuing.
Gurugram police have arrested an IT engineer for allegedly sending obscene WhatsApp messages and issuing death threats to a woman HR manager at the private company where they were both employed.
According to the police, the accused made contact with the HR manager during the recruitment process and later sent her abusive, obscene, and threatening messages.
On May 21, the woman filed a complaint with the police, stating that she worked as an assistant manager in HR at a private company, while the accused had applied for the position of sales manager at the same firm.
On May 20, the accused allegedly used WhatsApp to send her abusive and obscene messages, threatening to kill her, which caused her mental distress and fear for her safety, police said, adding that based on her complaint, a case was registered at the Sadar police station.
Following an investigation, the police arrested the suspect, identified as Puneet Bareja, on July 17 in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh.
During police questioning, it was revealed that Bareja was employed as an IT engineer for a private company and was working from home. He had applied for the sales manager position at the complainant’s company, which led to his contact with her.
“Thereafter, he allegedly sent abusive and obscene messages and death threats to the complainant through WhatsApp, thereby committing the offence. He was produced in a city court and sent to judicial custody. Further probe is underway”, a Gurugram police spokesperson said.
