Dispatch reported that IU and Lee Jong-suk first met in 2012 when they worked together as hosts on SBS music show Inkigayo. They remained colleagues for a decade before their friendship turned into a romance in 2022.

The couple's relationship became public in December 2022. Since then, they had been regarded as one of South Korea's most loved celebrity couples.

In its report, the media outlet wrote: "Actor Lee Jong-suk and IU have broken up. After four years of publicly dating, they have decided to go their separate ways."

It added that both stars' representatives confirmed the split, saying, "The two recently broke up and decided to remain good senior-junior colleagues."

The report further said that although the pair shared a long history, they found it difficult to maintain their relationship because of their demanding work schedules.
