A 19-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his girlfriend's family after he went to meet her at her village in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district, police said. The incident took place in Mahua Khada village, triggering grief among the victim's family.
According to police, the victim, identified as Shiv Prasad, had gone to meet his girlfriend on Thursday night. During the visit, he was allegedly caught by his girlfriend's family members, who assaulted him with sticks and sharp-edged weapons. He sustained critical injuries and died while being taken to hospital by his family.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and a case has been registered.
The victim's mother, Kunti Devi, alleged that her son was attacked with an axe, an iron rod and a spear. She claimed that Shiv Prasad had left home to collect Rs 50,000 for some work and had spoken to the family around 7 pm while returning.
According to her, shortly before midnight, Shiv Prasad called her in distress, saying, "Mummy, come and save me. They will kill me". She alleged that he named the attackers during the call, accusing the woman's father Rakesh, his sons Sachin and Durgesh, Rakesh's wife Gendiya and his father Gulzar of surrounding and attacking him.
She claimed the assault left him with severe head injuries, resulting in his death.
Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police Shivank Singh said Ram Badan Lodhi, the victim's father, approached the police station at around 6 am on July 10 and reported that his son had been assaulted by Rakesh Lodhi.
During the investigation, police found that Shiv Prasad was in a relationship with Rakesh Lodhi's daughter and had gone to meet her when the incident occurred. The officer said the woman also sustained minor injuries during the assault and is undergoing treatment at the district hospital. Her condition is stated to be stable and out of danger.
Based on the written complaint filed by the victim's father, police have registered a case under relevant sections of law.
At the direction of the Superintendent of Police, three special teams have been formed to investigate the case and arrest the accused. Two suspects have been detained for questioning, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
