Complaint against Pappu Yadav for Ram Mandir donation theft skit outside Parliament
The complainant alleged that Yadav insulted saints and the Sanatan community by wearing saffron robes and performing a skit depicting the alleged theft of donations at Ayodhya's Ram Temple.
Trouble brews for Papu Yadav as a complaint has been filed against the Independent Lok Sabha MP at Delhi’s Jahangirpuri police station over a protest inside the Parliament complex that allegedly hurt Hindu religious sentiments. The complainant accused Yadav of mocking saints and the Sanatan community by dressing in saffron robes and enacting a skit linked to the theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
According to police, the complaint was submitted on Friday night and has been taken on record.
The District DCP said legal opinion would be sought before any further action is taken.
The complaint also names Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav and MP Awadhesh Kumar, among others, alleging their participation in the staged act and seeking legal action against all those involved.
The complaint stems from an Opposition protest held inside the Parliament premises during the Monsoon session on July 31.
MPs of the INDIA bloc gathered near the Makar Dwar and raised slogans against the BJP-led government over the alleged Ram Temple donation theft and the police action against student protesters.
As part of the protest, donation boxes were placed on the steps of the Makar Dwar. Pappu Yadav, dressed in saffron attire, sat beside the boxes and enacted the role of a priest.
In the skit, Opposition MPs deposited money into the boxes, while Yadav pretended to take the money and put it into his pockets, symbolising the alleged embezzlement of temple donations.
Rahul Gandhi participated in the act, while several Opposition MPs, including Dimple Yadav, watched from behind.
BJP SLAMS RAHUL GANDHI
The performance drew sharp criticism from the BJP with party MP Anurag Thakur accusing Rahul Gandhi of giving “patronage” to a protest that insulted Sanatan Dharma, saffron robes and Lord Ram.
Referring to the skit, he said, “Today, under the patronage of Rahul Gandhi in Parliament, the insult to Sanatan, the tradition of sadhus and saints, our faith, and Lord Shri Ram, the deity of countless people, is extremely unfortunate, reprehensible, shameful, and unacceptable,” news agency PTI quotes him as saying.
Thakur further alleged that the Congress and its allies “never miss any opportunity to demean Sanatan and the Hindu faith.”
The Opposition, however, maintained that the protest was aimed at highlighting allegations of donation theft at the Ram Temple and demanding accountability from the government.
The issue has become part of a broader political campaign by the Congress and the Samajwadi Party ahead of next year’s Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
With the complaint now before the police, the matter has acquired a legal dimension in addition to the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling BJP and the Opposition over the Parliament protest.
