"These development works symbolise the rapid pace at which Andhra Pradesh is progressing today. It is a very significant day for the development of Andhra Pradesh and for the vision of a 'Swarna Andhra'," he said.
The Prime Minister's visit was headlined by the inauguration of the Rs 5,000-crore Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh's third international airport.
Named after tribal freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju, the airport has been built in its first phase with a capacity to handle six million passengers annually and is planned to be expanded to accommodate up to 40 million passengers every year.
Calling the airport a catalyst for regional growth, PM Modi said, "Today, on the very soil where Alluri Sitarama Raju dedicated his life to the cause of tribal welfare, a new airport is being inaugurated in Andhra Pradesh. This airport serves as a runway for the growth of Andhra and the North Andhra region. It is a launchpad for a brighter future for the youth of Andhra."
In an apparent dig at the Congress, the Prime Minister said the NDA government had moved away from the practice of naming airports after "a single family".
"In the past, airports were often named after a single family. We changed this tradition. We named the airport in Ayodhya after Valmiki and the one in Punjab after Sant Ravidas. The NDA government at the Centre has decided that this new airport will be named after Alluri Sitarama Raju," he said.
The Andhra Pradesh government has projected the airport as a major economic driver for the North Andhra region. According to officials, it is equipped with advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Airside 4.0 technologies and biometric passenger processing systems.
Upon arrival, PM Modi was welcomed on arrival by more than 13,500 tribal women and students performing the traditional Dhimsa dance, which was showcased as a record-setting cultural event.
Referring to the performance, the Prime Minister praised Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's approach to balancing infrastructure development with cultural heritage.
"It is a hallmark of Chandrababu that he has embraced both aspects. On one hand, the construction of an airport, a facility that reaches for the skies, and on the other, the setting of a world record for the Dhimsa dance by our tribal sisters. I particularly appreciate this vision of Chandrababu," he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu described the airport as a transformative project for the region. "The airport inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi is a jewel of Uttarandhra. Today, the dreams of the region have truly taken wing," he said.
Apart from the airport, PM Modi inaugurated Andhra Pradesh's first semiconductor manufacturing facility approved under the India Semiconductor Mission. The facility is expected to produce around 96 million chips annually and is aimed at developing a semiconductor ecosystem in the state.
In the power sector, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Rs 5,550-crore transmission system for integrating the Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone Phase-I (4.5 GW). He also inaugurated multiple transmission systems linked to wind and solar energy zones in Kurnool and Ananthapuram.
Additionally, he dedicated National Highway projects worth over Rs 1,880 crore, including the four-lane access-controlled greenfield highway from Recherla to Guruvaygudem on NH-365 BG and a high-level bridge at Lingasamudram on the Penchalakona-Yerpedu section of NH-565.
