Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Kala Jabandha was shot at by an unidentified assailant in Punjab's Mansa district on Monday, police officials said.

According to preliminary information, Jabandha was at his shop in Bareta town when the attacker arrived and opened fire. A bullet hit him in the abdomen, following which he was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses said Jabandha was preparing to leave for home from his shop in the grain market when a man on a motorcycle intercepted him and fired at him before fleeing the spot.

A local resident, Gurjant Singh, claimed that only one shot was fired and said the attacker appeared to be in his 20s.
