A car and a scooter plunged into a massive ditch in Ghaziabad on Thursday after the road cave-in amid relentless heavy rain that battered Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

The incident occurred near Atal Chowk in the Vasundhara area, where a building construction project was underway.

According to officials, continuous rainfall triggered a mudslide that eroded the edge of the road, causing the surface to collapse and the parked vehicles to slide into the excavation pit.

Videos from the spot showed the Tata Punch and the two-wheeler partially submerged inside the ditch as a large hydraulic crane was brought in to lift it out.

Police reached the scene soon after the incident, cordoned off the area and temporarily halted traffic to facilitate the rescue operation and prevent further accidents.

No injuries were reported.

The incident comes as incessant rain lashed Delhi-NCR on Thursday, leading to widespread waterlogging, traffic snarls and civic disruptions across several parts of Noida and Ghaziabad.

In Ghaziabad, areas including Shastri Nagar witnessed severe flooding, with submerged roads slowing traffic and leaving commuters stranded for hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain alerts for the region, warning of continued spells of heavy rainfall over the coming days.

Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution, especially near construction sites and waterlogged stretches, as the relentless monsoon continues to weaken roads and increase the risk of cave-ins and landslides.
