Amid relentless rains and rising floodwaters in Maharashtra’s Palghar, a group of locals went beyond their limits to help a pregnant woman reach a hospital in time, carrying her through chest-deep water on a makeshift stretcher made from a household door.

The incident took place in Hanumanpada area of Kelwa Road, where pregnant woman Priyanka Ravi Yadav went into labour during a period of heavy rainfall that had left roads submerged and emergency access difficult.

With floodwaters covering the surrounding routes, an ambulance could not reach the area, leaving Priyanka’s family and neighbours racing against time to get her medical help.

In the middle of the crisis, Asha worker Divya Gharat, social worker Chetan Gavard and members of his team stepped forward to assist. According to reports, they removed a door from a house and converted it into a makeshift stretcher.

Priyanka was placed on it and carefully carried through the flooded streets, with water reportedly reaching up to their chests, as they made their way towards Safale Rural Hospital.

The challenging journey eventually helped them reach medical assistance in time. Doctors at the hospital carried out a safe delivery, and Priyanka gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Both the mother and newborn were later reported to be safe.
