Ranveer's Rs 3,000-crore Dhurandhar is box office dud in Japan, draws 900 viewers
Despite the Dhurandhar franchise earning over Rs 3,100 crore worldwide, its Japan debut has failed to impress. The Ranveer Singh-starrer managed only around 900 viewers on its opening day despite releasing across nearly 80 screens.

Actor Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar franchise has earned over Rs 3,100 crore worldwide, but the film's Japan release has turned out to be a box office disappointment. Despite a wide release across nearly 80 screens, the action drama managed to draw only around 900 viewers on its opening day, marking a slow start in the country.
The film debuted in Japanese theatres on July 10. Trade reports suggest it was unable to secure a place among the country's top 25 films on any of its first three days - Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
The opening-day numbers reflected the slow start. The film sold 449 tickets by 2 pm across 57 locations. Even after expanding to around 80 locations later in the day, total admissions reached only about 900, indicating limited audience interest.
Selling only around 900 tickets on its opening day meant Dhurandhar missed the benchmark required to break into Japan's list of the top 10 Indian film openers. The final spot is currently held by Salman Khan's Tiger 3 with 1,300 admissions, while Pushpa 2 had previously fallen short of the same milestone.
RRR remains the biggest Indian opener in Japan with 8,230 admissions on day one. It is followed by Saaho, Kalki 2898 AD, Pathaan, Salaar, Jawan, Rangasthalam, Devara, Baahubali 2 and Tiger 3. This version is less list-heavy while retaining all the information.
While the Japanese release has had a disappointing start, the franchise has enjoyed remarkable success elsewhere. Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the second installment, became the second highest-grossing Indian film of all time after Dangal, collecting Rs 1,813 crore worldwide.
The first Dhurandhar, which hit theatres in December 2025, also turned into a blockbuster with global earnings exceeding Rs 1,307 crore. Combined, the two films have grossed over Rs 3,100 crore worldwide.
The Dhurandhar films are written and directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by, Lokesh Dhar and Jyoti Deshpande under the banners of Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
The franchise stars Ranveer Singh alongside Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera, Danish Pandor and others.
