Actor R Madhavan has finally weighed in on the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest over the NEET-UG paper leak, expressing support for students and urging action against those responsible. But while his statement aligned him with the protesters' demand for accountability, social media users were quick to question its timing, with many saying the actor had spoken up "too late" and accusing him of "playing safe".
Madhavan, who is also the chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), shared a lengthy note on Thursday, days after FTII students criticised his silence on the issue.
In his statement, the Shaitaan actor wrote, "Education has the power to shape the future of our nation, and every student deserves a system that is fair, transparent, and built on merit. As someone who has always believed in the limitless potential of India's youth, I share the concern and disappointment felt by so many students and parents today (sic)."
He added that "an education system must inspire confidence, fairness, and opportunity" and said incidents such as a paper leak "undermine that trust". Madhavan also urged the government "to ensure that every individual found responsible is brought to justice swiftly and decisively (sic)."

The post, however, drew mixed reactions online, with many users arguing that the statement came after weeks of nationwide protests.
One user wrote, "Hmm? Really? Now? After all this time (sic)?" Another commented, "Literally playing it so safe. Can't believe I idolised you as a teen (sic)."
