Actor Tom Holland reacted to his co-star, wife Zendaya receiving Christopher Nolan's rare 'perfect' on The Odyssey set during an exclusive chat with India Today in Mumbai. He said Nolan's appreciation for his performance was all the validation he needed.
During their global press tour, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey team revealed that Zendaya was the only actor to receive a rare 'perfect' from the filmmaker on set. While fans lauded her talent, they couldn't help but wonder how her husband and co-star, Tom Holland, felt about it.
Speaking exclusively to India Today during the film's Mumbai promotions, Holland admitted that while a perfect score would have been 'nice', Nolan's appreciation for his performance was all the validation he needed.
We asked whether there was even a tiny competitive streak in him after Zendaya earned the coveted praise, and whether he wished he had received the same. Holland instantly blushed and shook his head in dismissal, but co-star Matt Damon, who was also part of the conversation, jumped in and shared with a loud laugh, "There was for me. I can't speak for Tom."
Reflecting on his experience of working with Nolan on the film, Holland shared, "I got everything from Chris that I needed to as an actor. We're really lucky at the minute that there are really positive reactions to the movie online, and I have deliberately not read them because I felt that service to Chris throughout this process. He told me that he was really happy with the work that I had done and that I had brought Telemachus to life in a way that he had imagined. For me, that's it. That's all I need and I am so grateful for that."
The actor admitted that while receiving a 'perfect' from Nolan would have been special, he was equally happy that the honour went to his wife, Zendaya. "A 'perfect' on set would have been nice but it's kind of awesome that it went to Z'ya," he said with a smile.
Holland also reflected on what The Odyssey means to him personally. Calling the ambitious epic a turning point in his career, he said the film feels like the end of one phase and the beginning of another. "I couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity to work with Matt and Anne (Anne Hathaway) and Chris and the amazing crew on a job like The Odyssey. This movie really feels like a bookend to the first chapter of my career. It feels like the last time I get the chance to play a boy, so I am really excited for what the next 10 years have in store for me as an actor and a professional," he said.
