Google launches free AI research foundations curriculum in India, it will teach you how to build LLMs
Google has launched a free AI course in India that teaches students and developers how to build AI models. The company also announced new Gemini features, AI tools for schools, stronger cybersecurity and updates for businesses.

Google is making it easier for students and developers in India to learn how to build AI models. At Google I/O Connect India 2026, the company announced its free AI Research Foundations curriculum, a 56-hour course from Google DeepMind that teaches learners how to build and fine-tune large language models (LLMs), the technology behind AI chatbots such as Gemini.
The AI Research Foundations programme is available free through the Google Skills platform. Learners who complete it will receive Google Cloud Skill badges and certificates. Google also plans to expand access through partnerships with NASSCOM, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru and AVPN.
What does the AI Research Foundations programme offer?
According to Google, the curriculum goes beyond basic AI concepts and teaches learners how to build and fine-tune large language models, the technology behind AI chatbots such as Gemini and ChatGPT. The programme also covers advanced AI research techniques, giving developers and researchers practical experience with frontier AI technologies.
Google said NASSCOM and IISc Bengaluru will help scale the programme across educational institutions in India, while AVPN will work with local partners to make it available through the Google.org APAC AI Opportunity Fund.
Google expands Gemini for businesses
Google also announced new AI features for businesses. The company said Indian enterprises and startups can now access Gemini 3.5 Flash through its Gemini Enterprise platform with in-country data processing. It is also allowing businesses, government organisations and other regulated sectors to run Gemini from Indian data centres using Google Distributed Cloud, helping them meet data localisation and compliance requirements.
Sec-Gemini V3 comes to India
In addition, on the cybersecurity initiatives, Google is bringing Sec-Gemini V3, its AI-powered cybersecurity assistant, to trusted government and enterprise testers in India, including Flipkart. The company also introduced CAPSEM, an open-source security tool that keeps AI agents isolated, so if one is compromised, the rest of the system remains protected.
Google also announced new security standards to make AI systems and AI-powered payments more secure. In addition, it has partnered with IIT Delhi and IIT Madras to carry out research on AI safety.
Other announcements
Google DeepMind also launched ATL Saathi, a Gemini-powered AI assistant for teachers in Atal Tinkering Labs. The tool will help teachers prepare lessons and hands-on classroom activities. It will initially be available in 100 schools, before expanding to 10,000 schools. The education initiatives are part of broader AI push announced by Google in India.
Google also announced a few other updates. Researchers at AIIMS Delhi are using Google's MedGemma AI models to develop tools for detecting and managing leprosy and sexual and reproductive health conditions. Meanwhile, Gemini Live now supports 25 Indian languages and dialects, including Sanskrit, Bhojpuri and Maithili.
The company also said third-party research found that the Google Play and Android ecosystem contributed Rs 5.3 lakh crore to India's app publishers and the wider digital economy in 2025, marking a 28 per cent increase over the previous year.
