The memory crisis has struck the smartphone market yet again, and this time tablets, too, have taken a hit. OnePlus and Xiaomi have now hiked the prices of select devices in their respective line-ups by up to Rs 5,000, likely due to rising costs for memory – DRAM and NAND. Xiaomi declined to comment when contacted by India Today Tech. We have also reached out to OnePlus for a comment. The story will be updated as and when the company responds.

Before we dive into the new prices, let’s understand why price hikes have become more common. You see, every smartphone or tablet that you use needs memory, think RAM and storage. At a time when AI companies are paying high prices for memories for their data centres, smartphone makers are faced with higher prices. As a result, smartphones and other consumer devices are getting more expensive.

OnePlus and Xiaomi are far from the only companies to increase prices. In the past two weeks, Samsung, Vivo, Poco, Realme and Nothing have also hiked smartphone prices. Apple, too, increased prices of MacBooks and iPads last month.

OnePlus 15R, Nord 6, and Nord CE 6 get costlier

OnePlus’ latest price revision compares three smartphones – the OnePlus 15R, the Nord 6, and the Nord CE 6. The OnePlus 15R’s base 12GB/256GB model now costs Rs 59,999 – a Rs 5,000 increase compared to the older Rs 54,999 price tag. Though this is not the first hike for the OnePlus 15R, the device was originally launched for Rs 47,999.

The Nord series has also seen a rise in price. The OnePlus Nord 6, which earlier started at Rs 42,999 for the base 8GB/256GB model, is now priced at Rs 44,999 – a Rs 2,000 hike. Like the 15R, the Nord 6 has also received price hikes before.

The OnePlus Nord CE 6’s 8GB/128GB variant has also gone from Rs 33,999 to Rs 35,999, an increase of Rs 2,000. The Nord CE 6 initially launched for Rs 29,999.
