Mumbai doctor shares touching story of man who paid Rs 5 lakh for driver's surgery
A Mumbai doctor said a patient's employer paid for his bypass surgery and described him as a colleague. The exchange sparked reflection on dignity at work and respect across professions.

A Mumbai doctor shared how a patient's employer changed his perspective after refusing to see his long-time driver as anything less than a colleague.
X user Prashant Mishra shared the incident on his account, recalling how a conversation with a patient's employer left him reflecting on the importance of dignity and respect for every profession.
In his post, Mishra said a patient who worked as a driver had approached him for a bypass surgery. Since the procedure at his hospital cost around 4.25 lakh, he advised the family to consider a civic hospital where the surgery could be performed free of cost under a government scheme.
However, later that evening, the patient's son contacted him and requested help in getting the surgery done at the same hospital while trying to reduce the expenses. Mishra assured the family that he would do whatever possible to support them.
The next day, the patient's employer transferred the required amount directly through RTGS to cover the surgery costs.
After the procedure was successfully completed, Mishra called the employer to thank him for his support and informed him that the patient's surgery had gone well. During the conversation, the employer referred to the patient as his "colleague", which surprised the doctor.
Mishra said he asked the employer if he meant the patient's role as a driver. The employer, however, explained that he had been working with the man for 15 years and never viewed him merely through his job title.
According to Mishra, the employer said that both of them worked together, just in different roles, and that one person's profession did not make their contribution any less valuable than another's.
The doctor said the response left him speechless and shared that the incident reminded him that domestic workers and staff members should not be viewed merely as employees but as people who deserve the same respect and dignity as anyone else.

Several people appreciated the employer's attitude, saying that treating employees with respect and equality reflects true empathy.
Others added that while such examples are inspiring, workplace relationships can vary, and trust between employers and employees is sometimes complicated.
