Twisha 2.0? Pregnant govt official found hanging, family calls it staged suicide
Defence Ministry officer Naziya Khanam was found dead at her Dwarka home. Her family has claimed she faced mental and physical abuse at her in-laws' hands while 3-months pregnant.

A three-month-pregnant Assistant Section Officer working in the Ministry of Defence was found dead at her home in Delhi's Dwarka on August 21, with her family alleging that her husband and in-laws had continuously subjected her to mental and physical harassment.
The woman, identified as 30-year-old Naziya Khanam, was married to Ajm Ali Khan on April 11, 2026.
According to the FIR, Naziya's father Towab Khan alleged that his daughter had been continuously harassed by her husband Ajm Ali Khan, mother-in-law Samin Nisha, father-in-law Babar Ali Khan and other members of her in-laws' family. He alleged that they frequently abused and physically assaulted her and threatened to throw her out of the house and kill her.
Towab Khan said Naziya had repeatedly informed her family about the alleged harassment over phone calls. He said she was three months pregnant at the time and alleged that there had been no improvement in her husband's behaviour despite her complaints.
Naziya was taken to the hospital in an unresponsive condition and was declared dead.
According to the account given by Naziya's husband to police, an argument had taken place between the couple. He said Naziya locked him inside a room and went into another room. He then called their landlord, who came to the balcony and helped him out using a ladder. The husband told police that he subsequently looked through a window and found Naziya hanging from the ceiling fan with a chunni.
Police also informed Naziya's family about her death. Her father, Towab Khan, and her brother later recorded their statements before Executive Magistrate Dinesh Rana, Bijwasan. Towab Khan alleged that his son-in-law Babar Ajam Khan was responsible for his daughter's death and sought strict legal action.
In a statement to police officials, Towab Khan alleged that Babar Ajam Khan was responsible for Naziya’s death.
The family has alleged that Naziya was killed by her in-laws, while the FIR records the husband's account that he found her hanging.
Police have registered the case under Sections 85 (cruelty by husband or his relatives) and 108 (abetment of suicide) of the BNS and said further investigation is underway.
Naziya's brother has also spoken about the case, with the family raising serious allegations against the Delhi Police. The family caliming that provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act were not added to the FIR despite them mentioning dowry-related allegations in their complaint.
The family further claims that the father of the accused was a former police personnel and alleges that this is why the police have not taken action against the accused family.
The family has also claimed that more than 48 hours have passed since the incident and that the accused husband, Amjad Ali Khan, is still at large.
However, DCP Dwarka said that the woman's family members appeared before the concerned Executive Magistrate and submitted written statements. The DCP said that in those statements, the family did not express any suspicion or make any allegation against any member of Nazia's matrimonial family.
The DCP further said that on August 22, Nazia's parents again appeared before the concerned SDM and submitted a further complaint, in which allegations were made against her husband and other members of her matrimonial family.
The case draws similarities with the Twisha Sharma death case. Twisha, who married Samarth Singh last December, was found hanging at her marital home on May 12. It was alleged in the FIR that Samarth took her to AIIMS Bhopal, where he claimed that she had hanged herself at home at 10.20 pm. The circumstances surrounding Twisha's death have also been the subject of allegations by her family and investigation by authorities.
