Malaysia's 30-day visa-free entry: Indians warned against fake job promises
In a new travel advisory, Indian travellers have been warned against misusing Malaysia's 30-day visa-free entry facility or falling for false promises of jobs while travelling under it.
The High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur has issued an advisory cautioning Indian nationals against using Malaysia’s 30-day visa-free entry facility to seek employment.
The advisory especially warned Indian nationals against agencies that claim they can help them find jobs in Malaysia while travelling under the 30-day visa-free facility. Such promises are false and taking up employment under the visa-free entry can lead to legal trouble, including detention and action under Malaysian immigration laws.
The advisory, issued on September 22, comes amid a “noticeable increase” in Indian nationals arriving in Malaysia through the visa-free facility with the intention of finding work. The High Commission said many Indians are being misled by unscrupulous agents who make false job promises.
According to the advisory, such cases can lead to overstaying, illegal immigration status, exploitation, detention and legal action.
The High Commission clarified that the 30-day visa-free facility for Indian passport holders is meant only for tourism and social visits, and taking up employment under it is a violation of Malaysian immigration rules.
The High Commission has also urged Indian nationals travelling to Malaysia for work to ensure they have the necessary documentation, including a valid work permit or visa with reference (VDR).
For genuine tourists, the advisory says it is important to carry valid travel documents, including a confirmed return ticket and hotel booking. Travellers must also submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) three days before arrival and have a passport with at least six months’ validity to avoid immigration-related issues.
