While Maruti Suzuki is yet to officially announce the powertrain, the Bharat NCAP listing strongly indicates that the turbocharged engine will be part of the Brezza facelift's lineup from launch.

The Bharat NCAP document also reveals another important update. The familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine will now be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox in LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+ trims, replacing the outgoing five-speed manual transmission. Meanwhile, the 6-speed automatic will continue to be offered on the VXi, ZXi and ZXi+ variants.
This is significant because it marks the first time Maruti Suzuki's naturally aspirated petrol engine in a mainstream passenger vehicle will be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The additional gear is expected to improve highway cruising, reduce engine revs at higher speeds and potentially enhance fuel efficiency.
For the Brezza, the turbo-petrol engine itself is another first. Since its debut in 2016, the compact SUV has only been offered with naturally aspirated petrol or diesel engines. The addition of a turbocharged petrol unit finally brings it on par with rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Kia Syros, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq, all of which already offer turbo-petrol options.
Five-star safety ahead of launch
The Brezza facelift has also entered the launch with strong safety credentials. Bharat NCAP has awarded the SUV a five-star rating for both Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant Protection, with scores of 30.41 out of 32 and 43 out of 49, respectively. The crash-tested vehicle was the Brezza ZXi+ 1.5-litre 6AT, while the ratings extend to multiple manual, automatic and turbo-petrol variants listed in the Bharat NCAP applicability sheet.
More features, refreshed styling
Apart from the mechanical upgrades, the facelift receives a revised grille, redesigned front bumper, updated LED lighting elements and new alloy wheels. The cabin is expected to feature a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, an electric sunroof, front parking sensors and an updated dashboard design.
Bookings for the updated Brezza are already open for a token amount of Rs 11,000.
