Meet this IIT Delhi duo who built a Rs 565 crore startup for dairy farmers

They studied Civil Engineering at IIT Delhi and could have followed the usual corporate route. Instead, Neetu Yadav and Kirti Jangra chose to solve a rural problem, helping dairy farmers buy and sell cattle through technology. Their startup Animall rise to a reported Rs 565 crore valuation highlights technology's growing role in rural markets.

For many IIT graduates, the usual path after college is a high-paying corporate job, a global company or a career in technology. But Neetu Yadav and Kirti Jangra chose a different road.

The two IIT Delhi civil engineering graduates, who were roommates during college, decided to solve a problem they saw around them: the difficulties faced by dairy farmers while buying and selling cattle.

What started as a weekend idea eventually became Animall, a technology platform that connects farmers with buyers and sellers of cattle. The startup has grown into a Rs 565 crore venture, transforming the way India’s traditional cattle market works.

A COLLEGE FRIENDSHIP THAT TURNED INTO A BUSINESS IDEA

Neetu and Kirti first met at IIT Delhi, where they studied Civil Engineering. During their college years, the two became close friends and shared the same ambition: to build something meaningful.

After graduation, both started their professional careers. But the idea of creating something of their own stayed with them.

In 2019, they decided to explore the dairy and livestock sector, an area that was still largely dependent on traditional networks and local markets. They realised that farmers often struggled to find the right buyers, get fair prices and access reliable information about cattle.

That gap became the foundation of Animall.

BRINGING TECHNOLOGY TO A TRADITIONAL MARKET

Buying and selling cattle in India has traditionally happened through local traders and word-of-mouth networks. For many dairy farmers, finding a suitable animal at the right price was not always easy.

Animall aimed to make this process simpler by creating an online marketplace where farmers could list and search for cattle.

The platform also expanded into services related to animal healthcare, artificial insemination and other solutions to support dairy farmers.

The founders wanted technology to reach beyond cities and help people in rural India make better decisions for their livelihoods.

FROM A SMALL PROJECT TO A BIGGER MISSION

Animall began as a small weekend project in 2019. But as more farmers started using the platform, the idea gained momentum.

The startup’s growth reflected a larger shift; technology was no longer limited to urban consumers. Rural businesses and farmers were also looking for digital solutions to everyday problems.

Over time, Animall raised funding from investors and expanded its operations. Reports stated that the company reached a valuation of around Rs 565 crore after its funding rounds.

WHEN IIT LEARNING MET REAL-WORLD PROBLEMS

Neetu and Kirti’s journey shows that an engineering degree does not always have to lead to a conventional career path.

Their Civil Engineering background was not directly linked to cattle trading, but the problem-solving skills they developed at IIT Delhi helped them approach a completely different sector.

Their story is a reminder that some of the biggest startup ideas come from understanding everyday problems and finding simple solutions.
