Parliamentary panel to review NEET exam conduct, NMC's regulatory role next week
A parliamentary health panel will discuss the conduct of the NEET examination on July 16. The meeting will also review health ministry regulators as scrutiny widens after the paper leak row.

A Parliamentary Standing Committee is set to take up the functioning of regulatory bodies under the Ministry of Health in connection with the conduct of the NEET medical entrance examination during its meeting next week.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare, chaired by Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav, will hold a detailed discussion on the matter at its meeting scheduled for July 16, according to PTI.
NEET PAPER LEAK, PARLIAMENTARY PANELS
The controversy surrounding the NEET examination has already come under the scrutiny of two other parliamentary panels. These committees had summoned senior officials from the Ministries of Health and Higher Education, along with representatives of the National Testing Agency (NTA), the National Medical Commission (NMC), and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the alleged NEET paper leak.
The Health and Family Welfare panel will also deliberate on the affordability and accessibility of healthcare services across both the public and private sectors during its meeting on July 15.
According to the committee's agenda, the July 16 meeting will include discussions on the "organisational structure, mandate and functional proficiency of regulatory institutions" under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as well as the "Conduct of NEET examinations under NMC Act, 2019."
Earlier, the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports and the Parliamentary Committee on Government Assurances had also examined issues related to the NEET controversy.
With this, the Health and Family Welfare Committee becomes the third parliamentary panel to review the contentious matter.
As part of the ongoing parliamentary scrutiny, the committees have already called Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi, NTA Director General Abhishek Singh, and the NMC Chairperson for discussions on measures to strengthen the NTA and prevent paper leaks in the country's premier medical entrance examination.
The NEET UG examination, which was initially conducted on May 3, was cancelled by the government following allegations of a question paper leak. The examination was subsequently held again on June 21.
