Zakir Ganai, an A++ category terrorist, was among two terrorists first spotted by security forces through surveillance cameras on July 3 in a dense orchard area of Shopian.
Security forces later launched an operation in the area, which resulted in Ganai's death and was described as a major success in the ongoing counter-terror campaign in the Valley.
According to security records, Ganai was a resident of Kulgam district and had been associated with the LeT since 2024. His killing was considered significant as he was among the senior operatives of the outfit active in south Kashmir.
