Heavy monsoon rain across India on Saturday. Check your state's forecast
A lingering weather system over central India is keeping the monsoon active across several regions. Check whether your state will get drenched.
Rainfall activity is set to remain strong across several parts of India on Saturday, September 5, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in parts of northwest and central India.
The forecast comes as a well-marked low-pressure area over central parts of northern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining south Uttar Pradesh continues to influence weather conditions.
The system is expected to remain nearly stationary over the next two days, while the monsoon trough continues to run across northern and central parts of the country.
RAJASTHAN AND MADHYA PRADESH TO GET DRENCHED
For September 5, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh.
Heavy rain is also likely at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh.
The warning is significant because these areas have already received substantial rainfall.
In the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on September 4, East Rajasthan and East Madhya Pradesh recorded isolated heavy to very heavy rain.
Orchha in Madhya Pradesh's Niwari district received 17 cm, while Khandar in Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur district recorded 13 cm.
The IMD expects rainfall to remain fairly widespread to widespread across West Madhya Pradesh through September 6 and over East Madhya Pradesh through September 8.
HEAVY SHOWERS IN DELHI AND THE HILLS
The rain will not be limited to central India.
On September 5, heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Heavy rain is also expected over Bihar and parts of the Northeast, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
The forecast indicates that rainfall will remain fairly widespread over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on September 5, while West Uttar Pradesh is expected to see fairly widespread rain through September 6.
Uttarakhand is likely to continue receiving widespread rainfall through September 10.
In the south, isolated thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are likely over Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on September 5.
Interior regions of Karnataka may also see thunderstorms and gusty winds.
The IMD's latest forecast suggests that the active spell will gradually ease over parts of northwest India after September 5, although rain is expected to continue in several central, eastern and northeastern states in the following days.
