Rajasthan woman receives polite marriage proposal on LinkedIn from 'cute auntie'

A woman from Rajasthan logged on to LinkedIn expecting the usual professional messages. Instead, she found a polite stranger asking if she was single and interested in marrying her son, who has a PhD and is settled abroad.

Mudrika Kavdia, a brand marketing professional from Udaipur, shared a snippet of the message on X. The sender, who said she was around Mudrika’s mother’s age, was looking for a suitable bride for her 1997-born son, a PhD in Biomedical Sciences who is settled in the US.

“Dear Mudrika beta, I'm your mother's age, hence called you beta. We're not in a rush, but I started looking for a girl on my own. I would like to find out if you are single, not engaged or married. Hope it is fine with you. In that case, we can exchange information with you or her parents. Please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you so much in advance! God bless you!” the woman wrote.

The message was detailed but remarkably polite. Rather than making a direct proposal, the woman first asked Mudrika if she was single and said they could exchange information if she was interested.

Sharing a screenshot of the exchange, Mudrika wrote, “Received a LinkedIn message from a PhD mother looking for a suitable bride for her son. I was not expecting a mother looking for a suitable bride for her PhD son on LinkedIn.”

The post soon had plenty of reactions, with people amused by the unusual choice of platform for a matrimonial search. Some felt that LinkedIn was not the appropriate place to look for a bride, while others said the woman’s message was so respectful that it was difficult to take offence.

Mudrika herself appeared to see the funny side of it. In replies to users, she said she found the woman’s honesty and politeness rather endearing. She found the incident “pretty cute” as well.

The unexpected LinkedIn proposal has since turned into a discussion about modern matchmaking and whether professional networking platforms are slowly becoming fair game for parents on the hunt for a suitable match.
