The facelift marks the first major update for the second-generation Brezza, which was introduced in 2022. While the overall design is expected to remain familiar, the refreshed SUV is likely to receive subtle styling revisions, an upgraded cabin, additional features and, most importantly, a new turbo-petrol engine option.

The biggest talking point is the expected introduction of Maruti Suzuki's 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine, currently offered with the Fronx. The three-cylinder motor produces 100bhp and 148Nm of torque in the crossover and is expected to be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox in the Brezza. Recent test mules featuring a six-speed gear lever have further strengthened speculation surrounding the new powertrain.

If introduced, the turbo-petrol engine will finally give the Brezza a performance-oriented option, bringing it in line with rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq, all of which already offer turbocharged petrol engines.

The smaller-capacity engine could also offer a pricing advantage. Under India's GST structure, sub-four-metre petrol vehicles with engines up to 1,200cc attract an 18 percent GST rate, compared with the higher tax applicable to larger petrol engines. This could allow Maruti Suzuki to price the turbo variants more competitively while delivering improved performance.

The existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is expected to continue alongside the new turbo option, while the CNG variant is also likely to remain part of the line-up, giving buyers a wider choice based on performance, efficiency and running costs.

On the outside, the Brezza facelift is expected to receive revised front and rear bumpers, updated LED lighting signatures and a new design for the alloy wheels. Spy shots have also hinted at refreshed cabin trims and upholstery, although the overall dashboard layout is likely to remain unchanged.

Feature additions are expected to include a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replacing the current 9-inch unit, along with a powered driver's seat, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and front parking sensors. Select variants could also receive Level-2 ADAS, making the Brezza one of the most feature-rich offerings in the segment.

The updated Brezza is expected to command a slight premium over the outgoing model, which is currently priced between Rs 8.26 lakh and Rs 12.86 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will continue to compete against the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Kia Syros, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq in India's fiercely contested compact SUV segment.
