The Odyssey gets A rating, Christopher Nolan's film passes without cuts in India
Filmmaker Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey reportedly received an A certificate and cleared the censors without any cuts. The approval means Indian viewers are set to watch the same version as global audiences.

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey reportedly received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and passed the censors in India without a single cut. The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on July 17.
According to a Bollywood Hungama report, no dialogue or scene has been modified or tweaked, which means audiences in India are set to watch the same cut as the rest of the world, provided the studio has not undertaken any self-censorship in India.
With an ‘A’ certificate, the film will be restricted to viewers aged 18 and above. The makers received the censor certificate on July 9, and the film’s listed runtime is 172.33 minutes, or 2 hours, 52 minutes and 33 seconds.
Team's arrival in India
In the run-up to the release, Nolan, along with actors Tom Holland and Matt Damon arrived in Mumbai on July 10 ahead of the film’s India premiere across two days on July 10 and July 11. The much-anticipated title became the director’s first film to get an official premiere in India, with Universal Pictures International including Mumbai as one of the official stops on the global premiere tour alongside London, Paris and New York.
The India premiere began on Friday for a select section of the Indian media, marking Nolan’s first official film premiere in the country.
The second day of the India visit is set to feature a press conference, where Nolan is scheduled to interact with the Indian media and answer questions about the film. Later in the day, another screening of The Odyssey will be held for celebrities from the Indian film industry.
This marks Nolan’s third official visit to India. He last visited the country in 2019 while shooting Tenet, when he was accompanied by actors John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, who also stars in The Odyssey. They spent around ten days filming key sequences in India. Before that, Nolan travelled to India in 2011 to shoot portions of The Dark Knight Rises at Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur.
Nolan’s previous film, Oppenheimer, released in 2023, was released in India with a U/A certificate and one audio cut, though a lovemaking scene was self-censored by the makers.
