For Rs 3,000, this service sends AI robot to clean your house, video goes viral
Ever wanted to have robots do your chores and clean your house? Now, you can. A US startup, Tau Robotics, has started a robot cleaning service where humanoid robots come to your house and get the job done.
Chores are hard. After a long day at work, you may not want to go about cleaning your house or washing dishes. You would have likely wished at least once to have a robot that could do all of this for you. Afterall, if AI can write code, why can’t robots do chores? It seems that someone has heard you. US startup Tau Robotics has started a cleaning service that brings humanoid robots to clean your house, and do your chores.
Tau Robotics CEO Alexander Koch announced the cleaning service on X with videos of the robots doing chores. In one clip, you can see a robot getting out of a van and grabbing the cleaning materials and heading to work in about 21 seconds. The robot is dressed in a black uniform, with a rather cute white face with two cameras positioned to look like eyes. It moves quite smoothly too.
Koch wrote that the humanoid cleaning service is priced at $30 (roughly Rs 3,000) an hour. Do note that according to the startup, each robot is jointly controlled by a human operator and AI. These robots can also operate devices like vacuum cleaners, and take out the trash.
Humanoid robots to clean your house, do chores
Tau Robotics has three different humanoid robots for the service. Chelsea for cleaning of kitchen and bathroom, including sinks, counters, mirrors, tile and floors, using non-toxic products.
Then there is Elon for handling regular weekly visits. As per the company’s website, after a few visits, Elon can learn where your things are supposed to be, and put them back there, rather than tidying them into a pile. In one clip, you can see Elon rinsing off dishwash from its claw-like fingers.
Tony is the third robot type, positioned for deep cleans. It is meant for cleaning corners, and window tracks that usually a regular clean doesn’t reach.
All three robots have the same design, but with different colours for faces. Chelsea is white, Elon is purple, and Tony is green.
Tau Robotics claims that its humanoid robots can adapt to each space and the customer’s preferences.
Can you use humanoids to clean your house?
For now, Tau Robotics states that booking for its cleaning service remains invite-only for early members. Selected households can join the waitlist by sharing their email and neighbourhood to receive an invite code when a spot opens nearby. The service is also limited to San Francisco for now.
While the company has stated that humans jointly operate these robots with AI, it is unclear how this system actually works, or what privacy safeguards have been put in place.
To give you some context, the Neo humanoid robot by 1X Technologies, also works similarly with joint control. But you can set restricted areas for Neo to prevent human operators from getting access to certain rooms. 1X Technologies also says that faces are blurred from the footage Neo sees.
